Thespy Updates

• Remember to check out this helpful Guide!

• After registering student(s) for a Thespy by November 17th, you can upload their video to the registration system anytime before December 1st (Both Performance and Tech Thespy submission must be in .mp4 format.)

• Note that there is not a separate upload for Tech portfolios. Technical Thespys may elect to record a screencast presentation to best display their work.

• It is strongly encouraged that you upload videos before Dec. 1st in case there are any technical issues and you need to re-record etc. Submissions will NOT be accepted after Dec. 1st.

  During Filming: 

  • Depending on whether you’re performing a solo, duet, or group piece, you may use the allotted number of chairs or a table as indicated in the official Program Guide.  

  • Make sure your entire body is visible in the frame. The adjudicators will need to be able to see you in order to accurately score your movement choices.  

  • Shoot your video horizontally (in landscape orientation) rather than vertically (portrait orientation) and ensure your blocking is visible on camera.  

  • If performing a solo, choose a specific focal point for your “scene partner.” You do not need to look straight into the camera, but you should have clear focal points, just like when performing on stage. 

  • Shoot in a single take to replicate an in-person performance as much as possible.  (For solo acting, this includes both monologues and the transition in between etc.)

  After Filming: 

  • Do not edit your submission by combining multiple takes. Do not cut between the slate and the performance. Likewise, no text or special effects should be added. Any editing of the performance will result in a disqualification. 

Honor Troupe

• We’re bringing back the Honor Troupe recognition, but making it easier than ever to apply!

• Check out the Honor Troupe Application

• Troupe accomplishments will be assessed using a point system (similar to the one EdTA uses to honor state/province Chapters) and recognized for their Gold/Silver/Bronze Honor Troupe status.

• A congratulatory letter will be sent to school principals and your troupe will be entitled to use the appropriate Honor Troupe logo for one year, to advertise your achievement and promote your program!

Last Call for Troupe Banners

• Troupe Banners are 3'x5', hanging vertically, and for $30 you can purchase your very own in the Registration system, under “Services”.

• Once you add that service in registration, just send the image file to production@marylandthespians.org. The image should be a min. 978x1084px and <15MB. (example below)

You Can Still Register Additional Attendees

• Registration for all student “events” (Thespys, Auditions, Troupe Events, Awards etc.) will close tomorrow, November 17th.

• However, we can accept the registration of additional Attendees until December 1st if you have any last minute students who want to tag along to festival. (They just won’t be able to be registered for any “events”.
