STO Applications State Thespian Officers, or STOs for short, serve as the voice for the entire student membership of Maryland's chapter of the International Thespian Society. They are appointed by the Maryland Thespians Board. The STOs bring the needs of the state's thespians, along with new ideas and recommendations, to the State Board of Directors. They also play a pivotal role in planning for and running the State Thespian Festival, providing leadership training, teaching or assisting with workshops, sponsoring student-oriented functions, and fundraising. Most STO’s are selected from troupes whose directors serve on the Maryland Thespians Board of Directors, however, students from any active Maryland Thespian Troupe are welcome to apply. However, if space is limited and the board is forced to choose only one student from a school, preference is usually given to underclassmen and not rising seniors. The reason for this is to prioritize students who can serve for several consecutive years, taking that time to learn and grow as student leaders. Typically, representatives are trained by their Senior peers throughout their journey, working towards higher leadership positions. Deadline June 1st:
