Each year the Maryland State Thespian Festival hosts guest artists from across the nation as they deliver an educational experience unlike any other. Teaching artists typically facilitate three (3) to four (4) workshops per festival day and may also be called upon to serve as an adjudicator for the Individual Events and/or Senior Scholarships programs during festival. It's an experience unlike any other and one that you'll be proud of. Join us and experience what it's like to create with over 700 theatre and design students from across the state and inspire the next generation of theatre artists.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN 2020
We’re looking for the best theatre practitioners and/or educators in the region to facilitate exciting and engaging workshops and to possibly serve as adjudicators for the Maryland State Thespian Excellence Awards, One Act Festival, and/or Senior Scholarships. This year we are are looking to offer students well curated and specific workshop sessions and are looking for teaching artists who are able to facilitate approximately three (3) to four (4) workshops per festival day. We are interested in workshops in the following categories:
Voice & Speech
Dance & Movement
The Business of Theatre
Teaching artists who offer workshops that are unique in nature and highlight personal and/or institutional theatrical strengths are most likely to be invited to festival.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
Theatre artists and practitioners, educators and/or theatre administrators who have an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in theatre or their specific practice in relation to the theatre.
In addition to an experience unlike any other and the ability to share in the joy and excitement of some of the most talented students in Maryland, Maryland Thespians is honored to provide a hospitality room for all Teaching Artists. Lunch will also be provided for each day in attendance. Furthermore, stipends are offered as follows:
Teaching Artist Stipend: $300.00
Please note, each guest artist/adjudicator may be required to facilitate three (3) - four (4) workshop sessions and adjudicate two individual event sessions for each day of festival attended.
Guest artists who are selected to join us during the Maryland State Thespian Festival will be notified via email by December 31, 2019.
All those assigned to adjudicate during festival must attend a mandatory adjudication training session. More information will be provided after selection.
All teaching artists must submit the necessary information required to complete a background check before being considered for selection. You may submit your background check here.
Guest artists must be available for the entirety of the schedule below and will facilitate and/or adjudicate as assigned.
Friday January 10 - Saturday January 11, 2020:
Various times as scheduled throughout the weekend. Workshop and I.E sessions take place from 8:30am - 7:00pm. Exact schedule will be determined based on final Workshop and I.E. assignments.
